Anyways..U.K urban music is in a REAL good Place right now…I think its safe to say it is now a widely accepted genre that is trusted to do as well (Chartwise) as any other music thats big @ the moment!
On the way back from the studio today I was thinking about how bad the U.K Urban scene once was…(Think post So-Solid, More Fire, Heartless & Pay-as-you-go)
I was constantly in the middle of debates about U.K music & the quality and one thing that seemed to come up EVERY time was the MUSIC VIDEOS which today motivated to to take some Time out to appreciate the sheer genius & creativeness that came out of the U.K even during the time when things weren’t great and nobody had £45/50,000 budgets!
So without further ado this is my Top 10 (In No Particular Order) U.K Music Videos & (Most importantly) WHY!?
CHIPMUNK-CHIP DIDDY CHIP
In 3 or 4 short minutes…This video captures alot of British street culture and a true depiction of what its like in London public schools as we all know Chip is currently still in education and so this is a very personal and realistic Visual. With a star studded class & One of the Biggest Hip Hop DJ’s in the World…there’s enough intrigue and Awe in this Video to make it to my Top 10!
Lethal Bizzle- Babylons Burning
I dont know why this video didnt get much attention (Erm.. probably cos of the Violence T?) But personally this is creative genius at its best! The different Visual Dimensions (T.V falling down the block of flats, Slow Motion) its extremely unconventional, Daring and graphic & this is why its GREAT!
Tinie Tempah- Hood Economics
Erm…(MODEST, MODEST, MODEST..F**K IT!) This is one of my favourite videos of all time! Its gripping its creative & its British! Clones coming to kidnap their original while hes @ a Dog Race!? Its a great use of British values & culture and most importantly has meaning and Depth! The scene with 3 Mes in the Car going through the tunnel…Chilling!

Does exactly what it says on the Tin! Uses technology which has never been used for a music video before & Visual shows you the level Mr Rascal is REALLY on!

Dappy…In fact ALL of Ndubz & their team must have been in a REALLY dark place at this time and I think this Video Captures that PERFECTLY! Its Emotive its Real and it has so much MEANING to it! Watch this Video 3 Times & I guarantee every time you will DISC-OVER something different!
Agent X ft Ultra & Tinie Tempah- Perfect Girl
I agree the concept but abit cliche…But the fact that they were able to do pull it off is what makes this great! The Outfits, The Special Effects, The Page 3 Model…We went Russia for F**K’s sake!!
K.I.G- Head Shoulders Knees & Toes (Original Video)
NOW NOW NOW! Ignorant, Naive people..before you comment..lemme say this. They say the best way to unite communities is through song & dance and this is the PERFECT example of this! People from different walks of life stopping their daily routine to participate in a dance that was being filmed guerrilla style!? GENIUS The media always praises the new breed of ‘musician’ for their D.I.Y skills, building up their fanbase through myspace etc. I say it dont get more D.I.Y than this!
Bashy ft Scorcher & Wretch 32- Ransom
OK the fact that this should be developed into a MOVIE! is why this is great! It shows that us MCs are not just a bunch of oafs that only know how to rap! We can act to & REALLY WELL!
This video is out there but realistic & hey they got the guy from one of the BOURNE films in it! Big Major moves from a Big Major (But Independent) artist, this is what its all about for me! Creating you own buzz and creating art not for chart success but for critical acclaim and accalaide!
